ripply is a shared record of a rental stay: the people on a stay note what they notice, and everyone on it sees the same thing. This page says what we keep to make that work, why, who helps us run it, and how to have it deleted. The short version: we keep as little as the product needs, we never sell it, and there are no ads or trackers.

Who we are

ripply is run by Paul Gerios, as an independent project currently in early testing. For anything about your data, write to hello@joinripply.com.

What we keep

  • Your stays. The name, place and dates of each stay, and the names people type for themselves or for others on it. A name is just what you choose to be called; it does not have to be your real one.
  • What you report. The words, the area, when you say you noticed it, and the exact time you sent it; notes and photos you add; replies and status changes from a host.
  • Photos. Made smaller on your phone before they are sent, and saved again, which removes what the camera writes inside the file, including where the photo was taken.
  • Your email, only if you sign in. Guests never need an account. If you sign in (to keep your stays on more than one device, or as a host), we keep your email address, the name you give, your language and your notification settings.
  • For hosts: your properties, their areas, and the private notes and costs you add to reports, which guests never see.
  • Feedback you send from the app, with the page you sent it from and your browser type; linked to your account only if you are signed in.
  • Booking emails you forward to stays@joinripply.com: we read the place, town, dates and your first name to make the stay, and do not keep the email itself.

We do not collect your location, contacts, payment details or anything from other apps, and we do not use analytics or advertising tools.

Who sees it

  • The people on the stay. Everyone who joined a stay sees its reports, photos and names. If a host created the stay, or a guest invited the host, the host sees them too.
  • Nobody else. A stay is reached only through its link. Whoever started it can replace the link at any time, and nobody new gets in with the old one. Photos are private and shown only through links that expire after an hour.
  • A host's private notes and costs are seen by that host only.

Why we keep it

To run the service you asked for: showing everyone on a stay the same record, and letting hosts deal with what is reported (the contract between us). To send the emails you ask for or turned on: sign-in links, a host's new-report emails, the reply to a forwarded booking. To keep the service safe and working, and to read your feedback (our legitimate interest). We never use your data for advertising and never sell it.

Who helps us run it

A few companies process data for us, only to provide their service, under their own data protection terms:

  • Render runs the app (servers in the United States, Ohio).
  • Neon hosts the database (United States, Ohio).
  • Cloudflare stores photos and receives email sent to ripply addresses.
  • Resend sends ripply's emails.

This means your data is stored in the United States. Where the law requires it, transfers from Europe rely on these providers' standard contractual clauses.

Cookies

ripply only uses what it needs to work, so there is no cookie banner:

  • Your place on a stay: one cookie per stay, so this device stays you on it (kept up to two years, because a stay's record is often looked at again much later).
  • Signing in: one cookie while you are signed in (30 days).
  • Your choices: your language, dark mode and a few "already seen" notes, kept on your device.

How long we keep it

Stays and their reports are kept until they are deleted, because people come back to a record long after the stay (a deposit question can come months later). Your account is kept until you delete it. Sign-in links expire after 15 minutes. Database backups roll over within a few weeks.

Your rights

  • Delete your account yourself, any time: in the app, Profile, then Delete account (or, for hosts, at the bottom of the menu). It erases your account, a host's properties, notes and costs, and the stays only you were on.
  • What stays: on a stay shared with other people, what you reported stays, because it is part of their record too. It is no longer linked to your account or email.
  • See, correct or get a copy of your data, or object to how we use it: save a stay as a PDF from its menu, change your name in Profile, or write to hello@joinripply.com and we will answer within a month.
  • You can also complain to your data protection authority (in France, the CNIL).

Children

ripply is not meant for children under 16, and we do not knowingly keep their data.

Changes

If this page changes in a way that matters, we will say so in the app before it applies. The date at the top shows the latest version.
